MontaVista Introduces Customizable Linux-based Mobile Internet Device Platform

Barcelona, Spain – February 17, 2009 – MontaVista® Software, Inc., the leader in embedded Linux® commercialization, today announced Montabello, a new Linux-based software platform for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) that provides an integrated set of applications including a web browser, document reader, email client, contact manager, and calendar suite. The platform is designed to give users of mobile internet devices an Instant ON, Always ON, Always CONNECTED user experience.

MontaVista's experience with embedded devices in the mobile market and support of a wide range of hardware platforms allows the company to deliver a comprehensive software platform for Mobile Internet Devices. MID manufacturers face challenges in bringing new, innovative products to market. This includes maintaining lower development costs, delivering faster time to market, and ensuring quality while developing the application experience users want: power management, portability, and connectivity.
